Call for Papers for a Collective Volume in the Series ORIZZONTI D’EURASIA ISSN 3035-3831
INDIA: A EURASIAN GEOPOLITICAL ACTOR – The challenges of economic growth, strategic positioning, and evolving international relations. Edited by Alberto Cossu and Tiberio Graziani
In recent decades, India has experienced significant economic growth and strategic advancement, carving out an increasingly prominent role on the global stage. Historically anchored by a policy of non-alignment, India has effectively leveraged this stance to secure considerable economic and geopolitical advantages. As noted by R. Kaplan, India has acted as a pivotal state, balancing the influence of China and the United States in Asia. However, recent developments, including trade disputes and the imposition of tariffs, raise critical questions about whether India continues to serve as this balancing weight.
This collective volume aims to reevaluate India’s geopolitical role and posture by reflecting on twenty-five years of its modern history, human geography, cultural foundations, and regional relationships. Contributions are invited to probe the nuanced realities of India’s strategic importance and examine its repositioning within the dynamics of a multipolar world.
Suggested topics and themes:
- Historical review of India’s non-alignment policy and its transformation in the contemporary geopolitical context
- India’s economic rise: challenges, opportunities, and sustainability in the coming decades
- The strategic pivot role of India amid Sino-American tensions: continuity or recalibration?
- Infrastructure: ports, airports, railway network, connectivity
- Cultural and human geographical factors shaping India’s foreign policy and regional interactions
- India’s neighborhood diplomacy: relationships with South Asia and beyond, including technological, economic, and security dimensions
- The indian contradictions
