Call for Papers for a collective Volume in the Series Heartland series. History and Theory of Geopolitics
NEW THEORETICAL AND CONCEPTUAL APPROACHES TO THE STUDY OF GEOPOLITICS
(edited by Tiberio Graziani and Phil Kelly)
Geopolitics, as a multidimensional discipline, is today facing unprecedented theoretical and methodological challenges, in a world characterized by rapid and complex transformations. To respond to these challenges, we propose an invitation to contribute dedicated to the in-depth study of methodologies and analyses of geopolitical scenarios, from both a historical and, above all, conceptual and theoretical perspective.
The call is addressed to academics, researchers, scholars who deal with geopolitics in various capacities, inviting them to contribute with articles that offer new theoretical insights and innovative reflections to enrich the study of the discipline.
Objective of the Call
The objective is to create a collection of contributions that explore and redefine the theoretical foundations of geopolitics, analyzing its methodological approaches and its development as an interdisciplinary field of study. In particular, we are looking for works that:
• Reconsider the classical paradigms of geopolitics in the light of new global dynamics.
• Propose innovative methodological approaches for the analysis of contemporary geopolitical scenarios.
• Investigate the intersection between geopolitics and other disciplines, such as history, philosophy, social sciences and international relations, new technologies.
• Critically analyze the very concept of geopolitical space, considering historical, cultural, economic and technological dimensions.
• Examine the role of new actors and phenomena (e.g. global technology companies, climate change, migrations) in geopolitical processes.
Suggested (but not exclusive) topics
• New frontiers of geopolitical theory.
• Historical geopolitics and reinterpretations of the past.
• Interdisciplinary methodologies in the study of geopolitics.
• The concept of power in geopolitical space: theoretical reconsiderations.
• The geopolitics of ideas: narrative, representations and geopolitical imaginaries.
• Emerging Global Scenarios: Climate Change, Cyberspace, AI, and Geopolitics.
• Postcolonialism and Critical Perspectives in the Study of Geopolitics.
• Geopolitics of the Global South
